SOCIO-ECONOMIC, CULTURAL, AND DEMOGRAPHIC BACKGROUND

Maricaban is inhibited by a conglomeration of different  regional groups, from all over the  Philippine archipelago and other small ethnic groups. They are brought closely together through  faith during festive celebration in honor of their patron saint Mary Comforter of the afflicted. Wherein the chapel is located  just across the busy market along Saint Peter Street.  Religious groups in the community are:   Roman   Catholic which has the most in numbers, Iglesia ni Cristo, Born Again Christian and others.  It is fully integrated community with different amenities and facilities for its common use. It has house of praises for every  religious groups, wet market, PNP community precinct, a multipurpose hall for every barangay, SPECS foundation that sheltered abused children, DSWD office , Fire Station, locally run pre-school, senior citizen center, elementary school and a newly constructed public secondary school just behind KIA  motors. It has also different  establishment that cater  household and personal needs of the community  residents aside from the wet market like beauty salon, pawnshop, bakeshops, computer game station, internet cafes, multi-purpose gyms for  different sports activities, drug stores and public health center that addresses constituents medical needs.

     In  general  it is a community that cares and nurtures its people providing them basic personal medical, temporal, spiritual and sophisticated needs. Maricaban is divided by eight barangays . The barangay 178, 179, 180, 181, 182, 184, 185 and barangay 186. All barangay  officials work hand in hand to show  good and fair  leadership and to better serve its constituents.  A barangay patrol including police patrol cars constantly and alternately hover around the town to secure peace and order . Construction of new school buildings Day care centers and multi-purpose halls are just some of the local   government reinforcement that caters the need of the growing population in terms of education and other services. Growing  business establishments and other fast moving enterprise is an indicator of the town’s rapid progress .  Adjacent to the Metro Manila’s entry and exit point to and from the rest of the world , the Ninoy Aquino  International and domestic air port and the KIA motors builders offers a wide range of opportunity to every individuals to their economic improvement. Saint Peter Street is a busiest street where major establishment can be found most of especially the wet market. It is the town’s business center. It is also an alternative exit point from EDSA  passing Malibay to the domestic and International airport and same as with the different bus terminals along EDSA.

   Community  population is estimated to be  49, 348 with a total of   29, 140 household. Majority of the population are children and adolescent who  are grade school. Out of school youth are   minimal due to the alternative learning system being given free by the mobile teacher teachers in the Division of Pasay. Part of the population is composed of matured adults and senior citizens.

  The implementation of catchment area  policy in  the admission Of all students , lessen the ample  number  of  population in Maricaban Elementary School and prevented congestion of classes . Most of students  populace predominantly came from nearby four barangays only. Barangay 184, 179, 178 And 186.  It is one of the growing and promising community taking full initiatives toward total economic development. Guided with a mission “  To promote  and implement programs and undertaking towards a fast, efficient, and humble quality of service to the constituents”. The type of  communities around Maricaban mostly belongs to the lower  class families with income below the poverty threshold level. Financial insufficiency lead some of the     families to live in the makeshift houses. Some others are informal settlers or squatters.      

   Predominant business in barangay is retail business or sari-sari store, community restaurants, electronic shops and the wet market.  Other services that cater the need of the community and as a source of living are internet cafes, beauty salon, drugstore, bakeshops, hardwares, motorcycles shops and some others. Means of  transportation are pedicabs /sidecars and tricycles. Labor force members almost equaled that of men and women.
